Our Day On a Plate

JEM-243

I’ve have had quite a few questions around what my diet is like and what I feed Maxy (my one year old son). Here is our day on a plate…

7:00am

I wake up and start my day with a warm glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to get my digestive system going. Apple cider vinegar is great for detoxing your body and I have found that it really helps with balancing my blood sugar levels to curb those nasty sugar cravings.

I sometimes wake up a little earlier and do some core exercises as my stomach is still a bit weak from being pregnant with Maxy.

7:30am

This is when Maxy wakes up so it is all systems go from here on!! He has a huge appetite for a 1 year old and likes to eat as soon as he wakes up so we have breakfast together as a family.  I am a bit of a creature of habit and like to start my day off with two eggs. At the moment I have been making scrambled eggs with diced tomato, spinach and pumpkin seeds. I find this sets me up for the day and keeps me feeling full and satisfied.

Max has one scrambled eggs which a mixed vegetable puree and a smoothie. His favourite is Banana, Spinach & Sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds are really high in vitamins and nutrients so I try and add them to lots of his meals.

Today I headed out for a 5km walk with Maxy in the pram. It was so nice walking along the beach and getting some fresh air. I always like to fit in some form of exercise during the day whether it be a walk or a pilates class. I have found pilates to be really beneficial in helping my body get strong again post pregnancy.

Mid Morning

When Max has his morning nap  I like to get stuck into emails, editing posts for my blog and organising upcoming Thermomix demonstrations. Every so often I get side tracked and today I spent a good few hours shopping for furniture online. GUILTY… But I did find some great things 🙂 How cute is this black and white kids teepee and this funky blue arm chair. I want it all!!

While doing my work and in this case today, browsing furniture online and dreaming of redoing my whole house I had some sliced apple topped with some of my Home Made Peanut Butter. I find that by add
ing some good fats such as nut butter when I have fruit, it stops me from getting a spike from the fructose, it keeps me feeling fuller longer and tastes delicious!

12:30pm

When Maxy wakes from his morning nap he has lunch which is generally some kind of vegetable and legume puree or leftover overs from dinner the night before. Today he had some Pumpkin, Cauliflower Chickpea Curry (without the chilli) and a mandarin

Lunch for me is either leftovers from the night before or a salad packed with leafy greens, a boiled egg, roasted veggies and some nuts and seeds. Not being a meat eater I always try to make sure there is some form of protein in my lunch such as an egg or occasionally a piece of salmon. I also have a water bottle on hand at all times to keep me hydrated.

2:30pm

I like to graze throughout the day and always have a mid afternoon snack. Today I had a Salted Caramel Smoothie and Maxy had an Almond Pulp Banana Muffin. I make almond milk every week and use the leftover almond pulp to make these muffins. They are delicious, filling and have no added sugar.

5:30pm

This is when Maxy has dinner and I get our dinner ready for the night. I always give him finger food at night time so he can sit in his high chair and eat. Tonight he had grilled prawns, avocado pieces, a boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, pieces of roast sweet potato, a banana and a chopped up pear (I told you he has a big appetite for a 1 year old!!)

7:30pm

Pre mummy days, I would have dinner around 6:30pm however it is now a bit later after Max has gone to bed. Dinner always consists of lots of veggies and occasionally some seafood. My favourite meals are these Stuffed Eggplants with a big salad or some steamed fish with parsnip and sweet potato puree. Tonight we had Prawn Taco’s which I served in lettuce cups instead of tortilla’s. They were so good 🙂

8:30pm

I like to relax and unwind after dinner with a cup of green tea and something sweet. I generally have some slice like my Caramel Slice or some bliss balls in my freezer at all times so I will have one or two of these.

10:00pm

I finish off the day just like I started with a warm glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before bed. This helps my digestive system to detox overnight and digest the day’s food that I have eaten.

This is a pretty standard day for me, however my food philosophy is all about balance so you will see me eating the occasional piece of cake, ice cream or donut and I do have a thing for hot chips too. I believe that we shouldn’t deprive ourselves of treats as this creates obsessive though patterns and can lead to binge eating. I try to keep my approach to food quite relaxed and I make sure that I enjoy everything I eat.
